So guys, that’s me next to Austin on stage from last nights performance in Boston on 2/6/13 and my twin and older sister next to me. This picture was posted on the Of Mice & Men FaceBook page with the caption as: “These three sisters shared their story with me at our Tilly’s signing earlier in the day. When I saw them crowd surfing at the show later that night, I knew I had to bring them up on stage to finish the set with me. It was a very special moment, one that I won’t soon forget.” - Austin Carlile
So not only did I finally get to meet him at the Tilly’s singing for the first time (I was STOKED to meet Alan, Aaron, Tino, & Phil again as wel!!!) but when I hugged Austin, he noticed my cuts and whispered in my ear: “Hey, can you promise me something? Next time I see you I don’t want to see those cuts on your arms. Or else I won’t hug you. You don’t need those, I love you and you’re strong enough to do this, I know you are. So can you promise me you won’t do that anymore?” I will forever keep that promise with him.
We went to the venue afterwards. When they went on, they did 14 songs + 2 encores. The 2 encores were The Great Hendowski and Second & Sebring. I was crowd surfing during The Great Hendowski which was the first encore, and he saw me and he tried to grabbed my hand but we missed and the security guard pulled me over the barricade and put me down. Austin went over to the far left of the stage and looked right at me and told me to come over to him. So I did. He knelt down on the stage, and I was standing right up against the stage with our faces like 3 centimeters apart, while he was grabbing onto my arm, pointing at my cuts and singing to me “you’re too young to live this way. just close your eyes and see..” and after that line, he softly shut my eyelids for me and then put his hand on my cheek and continued “..the true meaning. You’re too young to live this way. Just look around and see that life is beauty.” Then he got up and I went back in the pit and found my twin and we stood together. Then Second & Sebring was about to start, but before it did, Austin pointed right at my sister & I. I mouthed “us?” and he nodded. So the song started, my twin and I trying our bests to crowd surf up front. The security guard got us and put us over the barricade. We ran up against the stage and Austin pulled us up. He brought us over and had us stand on the table thingy with him with his arm around us. We spotted my older sister in the crowd trying to get on stage with us. So Austin grabbed her arm and got her up too. We were all up there, so emotional in tears. I got to sing into the microphone “this is not, what it is only baby scars. I need your love like a boy needs his mothers side”. We looked into the crowd and spotted Adam Elmakias on some tall dude’s shoulders with his camera taking pictures (this is one of them!) and pointing at us smiling. Then at the end Austin said to us “come over here guys” and we all got in a circle with our heads pressed together and he said “you guys are family, we’re all family. you gotta stay strong for me. allie, next time I see you, I want to see a clean wrist. please keep our promise, for me. I love you guys so much. stick together, never give up, okay?” and we agreed to stay strong and to stay together and to never give up. Then we walked off stage with the band and we were flooded with a bunch of people asking us how it was like and how lucky we were and such. But basically, this was the best day of my life. And this is why Of Mice & Men will always be my favorite band, and Austin Carlile is also why I have stopped self harming and I feel 100x better about myself. I love you all so much. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and my sisters.
